Hello, summer……

A few weeks ago we still needed our winter coats and thick boots, and suddenly it’s swelteringly hot and definitely feels like summer. And lovely May is already over, can you believe it?!

For me, May and early June could last forever! I love how nature unfolds and virtually explodes around me, how I can literally watch the grass grow, how lush and exuberant everything is. And the colours! The bright green of the new foliage, the pinks and reds and whites and blues of peonies, roses and clematis….and don’t forget the scents!

At first you watch the buds grow fatter and can’t wait for them to open, and it takes seemingly forever until the first green, the first flowers appear. And then it’s over far too quickly. I wish I could make those days last longer……twelve months to wait for another May is such a long time!

So savour the moment before it’s gone……

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.
